GNSS(Global&North-South Security Studies)

GNSS(グローバル・南北安全保障）は、２・３年生向け授業で、１時間の講義が週１回、１時間のセミナーが２週間に１回ある。成績評価は、学年末の筆記試験。

各週の講義のテーマ：
1. Introduction: The concept of 'Global' and 'North/South'
2. The North-South Divide: A Historical Perspective
3. Crisis of the 'State' in the South and Emerging Security Threats.
4. North-South Security Cooperation and Policy Initiatives.
5. Arms Transfer and Defence Policies.
6. NGOs and Civil Wars in the 'South'
7. READING WEEK (NO LECTURE)
8. Security-Sector Reform in the 'South'
9. Privatisation of Security
10.International Migration in a Global era.
11.Regional Security Arrangements: A Comparative analysis.
12.Trends in Global North-South Security: Cooperation or Marginalisation?

講義の内容は、南北問題を中心とした、グローバルな安全保障問題。

扱う分野が広いだけに、講義の内容は大雑把になりすぎているよな気がした。また、担当教授が今年新しくブラッドフォードへ来たばかりで、セミナーの回数などを誤認していて混乱があった。結局、セミナーは予定されているトピックが話されたことは殆どなかった。毎回、その場で適当に話題を話すという感じだった。

また、参考資料が異常に少なく、古い本ばかりで、さらには図書館にそれらの本が所蔵されていない。そのため、自分で勉強することが殆ど不可能に近い。幸い、PCDの授業と内容が被っていたので、大きな問題ではなかったが、教育方法に問題ありの科目だった。

もっとも大学の責任というよりは、担当教授の問題が多いように思う。来年度以降、この教授が授業を担当するのだろうか。少し疑問であり、他の教授が担当すべきだと思った。
